Hello, how is everyone today? It is officially summer - the perfect time to share some fruity summer cakes with you. German women do a lot of baking-usually at least once a week they will make a cake to be eaten with breakfast or coffee. Our yard is full of berries - I'm going to have to make lot's of jam and cakes in order to use them all.
The cake above is called 'Stachelbeer cake', it is made with a green berry that has a sour taste to it. Don't know the english name, haven't really seen this berry outside of GE.
The apple cake (Apfelkuchen) is very moist and sweet-I love it. Add some whipped cream or ice cream and you have one decadent dessert.
Donauwellen (Donube waves) are very sweet-chocolate, cream and cherries.

This is poppy seed cake with Johannisbeeren-again, not sure of what you would call those berries in the US.

These strawberry cream filled rolls are a classic. You make bisquick dough and then just add the filling and roll. My Oma used to make the best cakes! Do you have a favorite summer cake? Cheers,
