Hello everyone, welcome to World Oceans Day at Doberman's by the Sea. The challenge and giveaway remain open through midnight tonight. The winner will be announced tomorrow. To enter the challenge visit here. Is everyone wearing blue today?
As you might have figured out by now World Oceans Day is to raise awareness for the oceans and to help preserve them and keep them looking beautiful like this:
Everyone can do their part to help the oceans-reuse, repurpose, and recycle. This is something that we blogger's are pretty good at. We always look for creative ways to reuse stuff. If your community has a recycling program, take advantage of it. Use shopping bags made out of fabric, not plastic. And if you take only one thing away from this today it is don't litter:
You'd be surprised what people leave behing at the beach or throw overboard. Over the past two years we have picked up clothing, towels, shoes, dishes, transformer toys, sand toys, life rings and vests, trash, cigarette butts, buyois, fishing ankers and bobers and what have you from our local beach. We need to be environmentally responsible and teach the children to do the same. They are our future.
Here is a web site that shows you how to make homemade, natural cleaners and beauty products. They compile a wealth of information, it is worth checking out. You can also hop on over to my friend Rhonda's blog, she is having a party today, too. And you can always visit the World Oceans Day web site for additional information and kid activities and educational material. Click on the Wear blue photo to get there.
And here is another freebie for you:
Left click on graphic to be taken to download page.
Now, go out and enjoy the day!

I am so glad you posted this! I don't think even after all these years of hearing it, people really get what they leave behind truly affects the eco system. I believe we need to teach our children to reduce, reuse and recycle at all costs to preserve what's left and hopefully help heal some of the delicate balance of nature. Thanks for all the links.

Happy World Ocean's Day! Thanks for the info! Blogging has taught me so many ways to reuse and recycle. Off to go check out some things today!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!

It's a gorgeous sun shiny day here in Florida! I'm enjoying all of the great posts and the links you've provided! Have a wonderful day! Happy Oceans Day! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteGreat reminder to cut down on plastic. They have passed a law that takes effect on Maui - no more plastic shopping bags - lets see it happen everywhere! Stop by and read about dolphins on my blog. Thanks for caring about our oceans.
ReplyDeleteHi! I came over from Flip Flops and Pearls. I love the Keep Calm and Save the Oceans sign! Nothing breaks my heart more than people not treating the oceans, lakes and rivers with respect. I see some sad things when visiting my dad in FL.
ReplyDeleteI'm a children's librarian, and I put out a big display for today and the kids were really excited about it. I'm glad to see that they and their parents are excited to learn ways to conserve.
Have a nice day!
I just mentioned finding shoes and toys left on the beach in my post! Everyone needs to practice the 3 R's...
ReplyDeleteReduce, Reuse, Recycle...for ourselves, our kids, grandkids, and our wonderful oceans, for many generations to come.
Happy World Oceans Day!
It's sad the amount of junk one picks up just wandering around the beach... and in winter too when there's almost no one around! :s How hard is it for people to clean up after themselves?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteGreat job reminding people how important it is to NOT LITTER!!!
Happy World Oceans Day! :o)
I think it wonderful of you to pick up litter from other people. It is the best way to honor World Oceans Day.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the link to homemade cleaning products. I will def be using.
Thank you for visiting me.
Happy WOD!!! You are so right about teaching our children/grandchildren to respect the waters...and the earth. There is so much garbage left along the beaches, as you say. On my last trip, I picked up fishing line, broken toys, and CIGARETTE BUTTS! (tons of other stuff, too). Not only are these items unsightly, they are potential threats to the lives of seabirds.
ReplyDeletePICK UP BEHIND YOURSELVES!!!
Thanks for the link to homemade cleaning products.

Love, Shellsea Blog
Great post and thanks for linking up. From experience I know you can never tell people too many times to remember to not throw their garbage on our beaches, or anywhere else for that matter. There's only two places for garbage — a trash can or a recycling bin, hopefully more of the latter!
ReplyDeleteHappy World Oceans Day!!!!!!
Simone,
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! We all need to do our part and not take for granted that the oceans will always be as beautiful as they are now...
Thanks also for stopping by - yes that is me with the dolphin!

I just love your blog! Where I live now, Puerto Rico, people leave so much trash on the beaches. It is very sad that people don't take care of our oceans.
